Reaffirming Spiritual Unity and Racial Equality

The following statement was adopted at a meeting of the ECFA Board of Directors on June 19, 2020.

We are heartbroken by the recent and ongoing racial injustices. As followers of Jesus, we reaffirm a Kingdom vision of justice, transparency, truth, and opportunity. We are firmly committed to Scriptural truth as a guide to our response (Isaiah 1:17, Zechariah 7:9-10, Jeremiah 22:3, Galatians 6:2, Philippians 2:4).

ECFA's mission is to enhance trust in Christ-centered churches and ministries based on adherence to biblical standards of financial accountability, fundraising, and board governance.

Spiritual unity and racial equality are foundational beliefs in our statement of faith. As an essential element undergirding the evangelical Christian faith, we believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, with equality across races (Colossians 3:11). This is a foundational element of our evangelical Christian faith and has been memorialized in ECFA’s Standard 1.

In addition to supporting our members that are faithfully serving in ministries of racial reconciliation and justice, ECFA has been and will continue to be committed, as a Christ-centered association, to strengthening spiritual unity. We stand for racial equality and commit to an intentional and humble reflection of our efforts regarding the diversity that exists within the body of Christ. As the Apostle Paul said, “For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men” (2 Corinthians 8:21).
