Join us for the webinar on Masterpiece Cakeshop – Discussing the Decision with Jack Phillip’s Lead Counsel with Erik Stanley and Kristen Waggoner.

Jack Phillips is a Christian artist who uses his God-given creative ability to design custom cakes. He declined to design a custom cake for a gay wedding in July 2012, which brought him before the Supreme Court of the United States this past term. Kristen Waggoner, lead counsel representing Jack Phillips in the landmark Supreme Court case, will discuss the legal implications of this case with Alliance Defending Freedom Director of Center for Christian Ministries, Erik Stanley.

Erik Stanley

Erik W. Stanley serves with Alliance Defending Freedom as senior counsel and director of the Center for Christian Ministries. He oversees all litigation efforts to maintain the autonomy of the church and to ensure its freedoms are protected under the First Amendment. Erik is also the founding director of the Church Alliance, a membership program providing religious liberty legal help to churches.

 

Kristen Waggoner

Kristen Waggoner

Kristen K. Waggoner serves as senior vice president of the U.S. legal division with Alliance Defending Freedom. In this role, Waggoner oversees the U.S. legal division, a team of 60 attorneys and staff who engage in litigation, public advocacy, and legislative support. Since she assumed this role, ADF has prevailed as lead counsel in six U.S. Supreme Court victories. Waggoner currently serves as lead counsel in two pivotal artistic freedom cases: Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which she argued at the Supreme Court in December 2017, and Arlene’s Flowers v. State of Washington. She also serves as counsel in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Becerra, which was argued in March 2018.
